You might spend a great deal of time and money on fire safety equipment such as emergency lighting systems but this investment is pointless if the system fails to work when it is needed. That's why annual tests of installed emergency lighting systems could be well worth having, in every sense.

Emergency lighting is important

A number of fire deaths are caused by smoke inhalation, so finding your way out of a smoke-filled office quickly is vital. Emergency lighting illuminates escape routes when the main power supply has shut down.

Legal requirements

Don't be left in the darkThe Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 sets out the requirement for organisations to carry out risk assessments and to have suitable fire safety measures in place, including emergency lighting. Companies are advised to regularly check their emergency lights themselves, and to get professional electrical engineers to run through a full system test every year.

How we can help

Emergency lighting testing is just one of a range of electrical inspections and tests offered by many of our insurers and comprises of a simulated interruption of the power supply for a period of time. During this period all luminaries and signs shall be checked to ensure they are present, clean, functioning properly and that they are recharged following restoration of the power supply.
